I am a child of God, mom of two and wife of one (of course!). My husband and I go way back to September 2000 when we met after a truck show (that’s a topic for another blog post!) and got married two years later. Our kids started homeschooling at ages 8 and 10 after completing the 3rd and 4th grade in a local public school. If I have my way, that will be their last foray into public school until they reach the college level.
We are brand spanking new to homeschooling so I wanted to use this blog to chart our path. We just may be able to offer a little insight or help to another family testing the waters of homeschooling their children.
I hope to add homeschool curriculum reviews, homeschool resources, ideas and more as we make our way through this adventure.
We live on a small farm surrounded by woods in southern Louisiana and couldn’t imagine a more perfect place to call home. Our farm sits on a hill surrounded by a few ponds, a creek and a whole lot of pine trees. We see wild deer, hogs, turkey, bobcats, rabbits, raccoons, squirrel and fox pretty regularly. We’ve even seen a mink! I’m convinced that there is something else living in the thousands of acres of piney woods directly behind us, but I’m not sure what it is. I really don’t want to know.
We have horses, dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, fish and cattle. We also grow pumpkins and Christmas trees to sell. This list is constantly growing, although it never gets any smaller.
So welcome to our family and our adventures in homeschooling! Join me as I make it through homeschooling and self-doubt about being my kids’ teacher. If you’re new to homeschooling, or even a veteran, you probably run into the same questions: am I crazy (yes!)? Am I doing enough? Should I put them back in school? Should I be doing more? Am I a freak? Do I know enough to teach them? And so on and so forth. But in doing this, we will also share in the great joys we see in our smiling children’s faces as they learn new things and find the joy in learning in a loving family environment.
